MX5 seat subframes finished

One pair of seat sub frames to fit the MX5 seats to the bug. I ended up attaching them to the central hump at the front and to the floor pans in the rear. These seats are super comfy compared to the stock seats. Really enjoyed making these and got the welder dialled in just […]

MX5 seat subframes

Next welding job is to make up some sub frames to mount the MX5 seats. The plan is to bolt the frames to the stock beetle runners on the floor pans so I can always revert to standard beetle seats if I want to.

Front bumper trial fitted

Front tube bumper trial fitted and mounts tack welded to the front beam. I’ll weld them properly when I tear down the chassis next week. Getting excited starting to see the baja elements on this build coming together.

N/S roof welded in

Inside of the roof painted and welded in today. Just need to grind the welds flush and knock the gutter lip over. A surprising amount of work went into repairing this section!

N/S roof repairs

Fabricating some sections to repair the roof on the N/S. First up the section which sits inside the guttering, this needed a fair bit of work to get a nice fit. Followed by a small repair piece for the window aperture which needed a few runs through the shrinker to get the right curve. I […]

O/S rear arch repairs

All of the O/S rear fender captive nuts needed replacing as a previous owner had simply drilled new holes through the old plates and fitted another nut. 3 down, 2 to go!

Even more N/S rear gutter repairs

Some pretty tricky repairs today. The gutter on a beetle has a slight curve to it so I borrowed a shrinker to form the correct profile. And a small repair to the rear drip rail. I’m just about done with the inner repairs this side now.

Further N/S Rear gutter repairs

Further work on this corner repair. One more patch repair on the quarter panel and I’ve welded in the pillar repair. I should be able to get the gutter repair welded in tomorrow and the rest of the inner framework sorted.

The tube bumpers have arrived!

It’s always nice when something turns up that you’re not expecting! I only ordered the front and rear tube bumpers on Monday expecting them to take weeks to get here as they were on back order. Here they are!
