Furloughed!

I’ve been furloughed from work for the next 4 weeks so time to get a jog on with this project! Hopefully I can get the rest of the welding finished and onto some of the baja conversion jobs. I’ve made the repair pillar ready to weld in (the rusty mess on the right is all […]

N/S Rear gutter repairs

Went digging into the N/S rear guttering. Ended up cutting a big chunk of the roof off to get access to the inside framework which had started to rust out. First job will be to make up a repair for the pillar.

Scuttle repairs

Removing the remnants of the seal channel that the previous owner had just fillered over. The metal under is pretty solid but needs a few patches grafting in. I’ve also started digging into the rear gutter which always rusted out on these. This should be a fun bit to fabricate!

O/S front arch repairs

Lots of fiddly little repairs needed on the drivers front arch with fresh metal going in along the seal channel, along the A pillar seam and replacement of two fender captive nuts.

Custom headliner

Decided the baja needed a custom headliner. The old one was in ok condition so I made a nice template from it in hardboard. And the new headliner all stitched up in the same fabric as the rest of the interior. Lovely stuff.

Baja kit mockup

Full mockup of the baja front panels this afternoon. I’ve a bit of trimming left to do but it’s just about where I want it.

Swing out cooker install

Swing out bracket back from the powder coaters this week and all installed. Works a treat! And the swing out in action! Lovely stuff. Hopefully get the cooker and heater plumbed in soon so I can use them.

Further N/S front arch repairs

A very wet day yesterday cycling to and from the workshop. I did manage to pretty much finish up all the last little repairs to the N/S front arch though. The O/S isn’t as bad as this so shouldn’t take quite as long!

Washer bottle panel welded in

The metal behind the washer bottle panel cleaned up quite nicely and only needed a small repair in the end. Rust treated with bilthamber deoxgel and hydrate80. New washer bottle panel clamped, welded and ground flush just as my grinder died (new brushes I think).
